About Dr Michael Dan

Dr. Michael Dan is a highly accomplished orthopaedic surgeon, former rugby player, and distinguished researcher with a PhD in Orthopaedics. Known for his exceptional skills in both the surgical theatre and the sporting arena, Dr. Dan has made significant contributions to the field of orthopaedic surgery and biomechanics.

Michael grew up in Newcastle before completing high school at the Australia’s premier rugby nursery; St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill. After an impressive rugby career, that included playing for Australia in the under 21s world cup and being signed to the Western Force, that showcased his athleticism and leadership on the field, Dr. Dan transitioned to the medical field to pursue his passion for helping others. He completed his medical degree at Bond University in 2012. He then completed specialised training in orthopaedic surgery through the NSW training scheme, finishing in 2022, where he honed his surgical expertise and gained a deep understanding of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries. This was followed by additional fellowship training specifically in complex and comprehensive knee surgery at the prestigious Lyon Knee School with Dr. David H. Dejour.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to advancing the field, Dr. Dan pursued both a Master’s degree and PhD in Orthopaedics through the University of New South Wales, focusing on the intersection of biomechanics and surgical interventions. His research delved into areas such as load distribution patterns, kinematics, and the biomechanical factors influencing various orthopaedic conditions. Dr. Dan's groundbreaking work has provided valuable insights into optimising surgical outcomes and enhancing patient care.

 

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Michael Dan remains actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical professionals from medical students to orthopaedic trainees. He serves as a respected faculty member at the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Laboratory at the University of NSW, sharing his wealth of knowledge and expertise with the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
